the cowboy builder

the cowboy builder is a pub created with artists frankie ashworth and holly tafe. we painted and wallpapered the walls and printed floorboards onto a3 paper which were then stuck to the floor with wheat paste i made at home. it served a different purpose for each of us. for me it was a space which i felt was an essential part of viewing my paintings, along with the betfred slip drawings, creating one cohesive environment. the space was used by visitors as a pub with people sat drinking and interacting with the betting slips on the tables. we put cigarette butts on the floor outside, spilled cider on the carpet to make it sticky and a few other things which you cannot sense through the documentation here. a recording of a music night i took at my local was used as ambiance, i recommend listening to it while scrolling through the documentation below.
